Who is Linda?

I have been a licensed Social Worker for over 20 years holding a Specialization in Substance Abuse, working with adolescents, families, couples and individuals from all cultures, races and economic backgrounds.

Choosing to become a Social Worker was easy, getting there was challenging. I made this decision after a personal tragedy and having a dream to help people and make a difference.

My greatest rewards and successes have occurred when I see individuals grow; understand the importance of self empowerment and the infinite possibilities that exist for themselves. Sometimes the first step of the journey is just to plant the seed knowing in time the seed will root and grow into beautiful livings things. I may not always be there to see the beautiful flowers, but can acknowledge the growth, self confidence and the aha moments when the light of understanding and allow the freedom that follows. These are precious gifts and moments to be cherished by both the client and therapist.

Perhaps the most difficult decision for any person is to take that 1 st step and seek help. No problem or issue should be taken lightly simply because it affects that individual in ways others may never see, understand or have to live with. I can remember one time a teen came to see me devastated because he and his girlfriend broke up and how deep and strong his feelings were. I assumed they had a long term relationship, but as it turned out they were only involved and dating for a little over a week. We both learned lessons in helping him to cope with the loss, his feelings and making positive choices in the future.

Another client suffered from severe anxiety and phobias – so severe it prevented her from living a normal life. There were many days she could not get out of bed or function and be there for her family. After working and discovering the reason that caused the pain; she was able to face the fear, pain and begin a normal and fulfilling life.

Sometimes the most challenging of all therapy is working with couples. – usually one person in the relationship is the most vested and wants the relationship to work, sees there's a problem and is already working on making changes. The partner is often not as interested in seeking counseling or will do so only to appease his spouse and reluctantly shows indifference in working out the issues of the marriage, whether on a conscious or subconscious level. Sometimes when this occurs, one person in the relationship is just looking for validation that it's ok to end the marriage.

My best assets are my ability to listen both to the spoken and unspoken word, being non judgmental, believing people need to empower themselves and be happy with the choices they make. I hold confidentially to be extremely important and know the importance of laughter and family in our lives. Through my own life experiences, formal education, personal and spiritual growth and a better understanding of all that surrounds me I offer all of this to the people I work with. Choosing a therapist is an important step and one should feel comfortable with in order to be honest about their questions and concerns. My WISH is to have every individual reach for their dreams, achieve them in the best Positive Way and share with others the possibilities I see every day. home
